Office Mobile coming to Nokia smartphones from Cell Phones etc. by Allan David Reyes

Nokia and Microsoft has just formalized their alliance and announced that Office Mobile will soon be available on Nokia smartphones. Previously limited to Windows Mobile devices only, this is the first time that Office Mobile will be made available outside of a Microsoft platform. Probably conceding to the fact that Windows Mobile devices will never be as successful as Nokia handsets, Microsoft has agreed to partner with the Finnish company to provide native support for Microsoft Office on their mobile devices beginning with their Eseries line.

Apart from Office Mobile, Office Communicator Mobile, SharePoint, and Microsoft System Center will all soon be hitting Nokia Symbian-based devices as well. No word, though, on when these productivity tools will be made available to the public, but this is should be good news for Nokia fanatics looking to get more done out of their mobile phone.

The full press release from Microsoft can be found here while Nokia’s is located here. Below is a video of Microsoft Business Division President Stephen Elop and Nokia’s Executive Vice President for Devices Kai Öistämö making the announcement:

On a similar note, Nokia also mentioned that they will be working with Microsoft on providing a whole “new user experience” to be showcased in their future devices. Unfortunately, they didn’t go into specifics regarding this matter, but it’s pretty clear that Office Mobile for Nokia smartphones is just the start of something big for both companies.
