LG enV2 is a very cool phone. it’s smaller, slimmer, and sleeker than ever, the phone features large external keys and an easy-to-use QWERTY keyboard that make dialing and texting a snap. Advanced messaging features like auto text readout, message sort, and the ability to store up to 300 text messages enhance the experience. The larger internal display, along with Bluetooth stereo support, a music player, and a 2.0 megapixel camera / camcorder keep you perfectly entertained, and with a microSD memory port, you can save all your favorites. Small on size and big on style, you’ll give LG enV2 two thumbs up! These are the main features of LG enV 2, it still has many other wonderful features such as stereo Bluetooth, QWERTY keyboard, QVGA main display, EVDO data, etc. Now you can easily understand why so many people are crazy about it.
The good:
The LG enV(2) is a slim and attractive handset, with a roomy keypad, bright dual displays, a good multimedia feature set, a full QWERTY keyboard, plus great call quality.
The bad:
The LG enV(2) does not offer newer features from the first enV. Also, photo quality was mediocre, and the external display can be a bit too small. Streaming video quality could also be a lot better.
The bottom line:
The LG enV(2) is not much more than a slimmed down version of the enV, but it still serves as an excellent high-end messaging phone.
This is quite fair, it’s exactly what I want to say.

Sony-Ericsson Xperia X1 has been creating hype in the industry for quite some time now. Being Sony-Ericsson’s first Windows Mobile phone, the X1 needs a little more than luck to compete in this ultra competitive market.
This review unit is solid black in color and Sony-Ericsson offers a silver version as well. Unlike mobile devices these days, the X1 is heavy, weighing at 158 grams. This is mainly because of its steel construction, which is evident as even the battery cover is made out of metal. The hefty weight didn’t put me down. In fact, I prefer that it weighs this much because it gives me a better grip as well as feeling that it is sturdily built.
The competitive advantage of the X1 is its Arc slider design, where the screen slides upwards, revealing the QWERT keypad and angling the screen for a better view point, as well as the Xperia Panel Interface, simply called the X Panel.
The X Panel has a dedicated button below the screen. When the button is pressed, the X1 brings up a grid like interface where the “panels” are displayed. More panels can be downloaded from Sony Ericsson’s website, giving its user freedom in what they want in their phone.
There is a 3.2 megapixel camera at the back of the X1 with a single white LED to serve as flash light. The camera performed rather well and color representation was good even with flash on.
The QWERTY keypad is great as the key are quite far apart and tactical feedback is good. However, it’s a bit “flat” which mean your thumbs will have hard time “feelings” the keys.
Powered by a Qualcomm MSM7200A processor clocked at 528MHz, 512MB RAM and 256MB ROM. The device performed really fast and is one of the fastest Windows Mobile devices in the market.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is one of the fastest Windows Mobile devices I’ve used and it certainly didn’t disappoint me. The QWERTY keypad is a little flat and with a price tag of US$650, it will break the bank for some of us.

Samsung has just announced the release of Samsung Gloss u440 in the US, a phone that’s been available in Canada since last year, under the name of Samsung Cleo.
Starting today, the Gloss u440 is offered by U.S. Cellular, both online and through the carrier’s retail locations.
Targeted at “fashion-forward customers”, Samsung Gloss u440 is a clamshell that has a full QWERTY keyboard and two displays: a 2.2 inch TFT internal one and a smaller external one.
Interestingly, the internal display is said to feature a CIF resolution, which means it has 352 x 288 pixels. Or maybe there’s a typo on Samsung’s website and it’s QCIF, in which case the screen only has 176 x 144 pixels.

Other specs include:
- Stereo Bluetooth
- Music Player
- easyedge Service
- 1.3 MP camera
- MicroSDHC card support, up to 16GB
- 2.55 x 2.94 x 0.82 inches

The price of U.S. Cellular’s Samsung Gloss is not known, but it shouldn’t be a high one anyway. The phone is available in two color versions: charcoal and pink.
The AT&T leaks continue today with the unveiling of a really interesting LG smartphone.
Apparently called LG Monaco, or LG Pico, the unannounced handset will be part of LG’s Windows Mobile line-up of devices.
According to the info found at Engadget, the so-called Monaco will run on Windows Mobile 7, which means it will probably be launched in 2010 – although the leaked AT&T slide specifies September 2009 as a possible release date.
LG Monaco is a full-touch phone (3.2 inch screen with 480 x 800 pixels) that also features a sliding QWERTY keyboard:

As you can see in the image above, the handset’s other features include A-GPS, Quad band GSM and tri-band HSDPA connectivity, a 5MP camera with autofocus, and MicroSDHC card support, up to 16GB.
The LG Monaco will also have a pico-projector as an accessory.
We’ll bring more about this as soon as official details come out.

T-Mobile ( G1 owners have been patiently waiting for T-Mobile to roll-out the Android OS 1.5 update, known as “Cupcake,” through over-the-air installations. Alas, we’ll all be waiting until at least next month before T-Mo gets the eagerly-anticipated Android OS 1.5 “Cupcake” update to the entire US. But, that doesn’t mean you have to wait on T-Mobile to get your hands on the new Android OS. The Android OS 1.5 ROM is now available through the Android Code website as a free download - and with a little elbow-grease, anyone can force-update their G1 without T-Mobile’s help.
With video-recording, homescreen widget support, stereo bluetooth and an on-screen keyboard, the Android Cupcake update is worth getting your hands on. For those of you already familiar with force-updating your G1, go ahead and do your thing (the steps are the same as we’ve outlined previously). Follow these instructions to force-update your G1 to Android OS 1.5 “Cupcake” -
- Download the signed-kila-ota-xxxx.xxxx.zip update file
- Rename “signed-kila-ota-xxxx.xxxx.zip” to “update.zip”
- Copy update.zip to a freshly formatted microSD card (copy it to root)
- Reboot and flash your G1 with the new Cupcake firmware
- Disconnect your T-Mobile G1 from your computer if you used the data cable to access the microSD card
- Turn off the handset by holding down the “Power” button
- Turn it back on while holding down the “Power” (End Call) and “Home” buttons
- When you see “Triangle” icon, open the keyboard and press “Alt” and “L” simultaneously
- When you see some yellow text, press “Alt” and “S” simultaneously
- Follow the on-screen instructions
- Press “Home” and “Back” buttons simultaneously when you’re done and ready to reboot
- The G1 will reboot as it does its thing - let it do so.
- Enjoy Cupcake with on-screen keyboard and stereo Bluetooth support!
With Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) expected to unveil their latest iPhone offering(s) at WWDC 2009, the iPhone rumors are coming hard and fast. The latest iPhone rumor to rise to the surface has the iPhone getting jiggy with direct TV show and movie downloads through WiFi. In-app advertisements for “iTunes Movies,” “iTunes Movie Rentals” and “iTunes TV” apparently led one curious web-surfer to stumble upon an iPhone iTunes section for video downloads.
Giving more credence to the rumor is the fact that the iPhone iTunes video section is seemingly under construction. Missing graphics and non-functional elements seem to indicate that Apple is upgrading their current iTunes
system on-the-fly. As you can see from the alleged screenshots, the iPhone iTunes video store allows you to browse by genre or featured movies and TV shows.
It’s unclear if Apple will restrict movie and TV downloads to WiFi connections, but if the company’s track record in restricting bandwidth-intensive downloads from using 3G connections is any indication, future iPhones will be downloading long-form media only through a WiFi network. We’re also going to have to wait and see if this new video-download section of iTunes will be rolled out prior to iPhone OS 3.0 or if it will be one of the upcoming iPhone operating system’s new features.

The Palm Eos is gearing up for release on the major GSM carrier sometime during second half of 2009. Engadget has posted a slide capture of an internal AT&T doc that lists the specs and plans for the Palm Eos (Castle). According to a leak on Engadget, the Palm Eos will be launched in the second half of 2009.Codename Palm Castle, the Palm Eos is not confirmed to be running WebOS and does not have a slider like the Palm Pre. It is in candy bar design, comes with QWERTY keyboard, 2.63-inch touch screen, 2 megapixel fixed focus camera, 4GB internal storage, Bluetooth and A-GPS. The Eos is said to be exceptionally slim. It will measure 55mm x 111mm (~ 2.1″ x 4.3″ inches), weigh 100 grams (3.52 ounces) and come in at only 10.6mm (.42″ inches) thin. It is interesting that the Eos now looks to be using the Qualcomm MSM7225 processor instead of the supercharged Texas Instruments OMAP found on the Pre.
AT&T is set to launch another smartphone from Hewlett-Packard. The HP iPAQ K3 is the 3rd gen of iPaq from Hewlett-Packard. The HP iPAQ K3 set to launch in November 2009 with Windows Mobile 6.5. Codenamed Obsidian, this device has a number of great features like WIFI, GPS and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, but this is spoilt by the low QVGA screen resolution, especially on a large 2.8 inch landscape screen. There’s a Qualcomm MSM7200A CPU (528 MHz), and also features a 2 megapixel camera, 256MB of RAM, a half gig of ROM, microSD slot, triband HSDPA and quadband EDGE.
This is a 13.5mm thick phone, packing a 1400 mAh battery, a pretty decent keyboard and you should know that the above-mentioned display is a touch one.
We are loving whoever sent Engadget all the official AT&T slides showing off the coolest new phones to come out in 2H 2009. The biggest news in the bunch, we believe, is the fact that AT&T is readying a new Android device: the HTC Lancaster.
Up until this point we knew AT&T had an interest in Android but was quite non-committal about making any promises — the company would only mention that it was looking strongly into the OS as a plausible option.
The HTC Lancaster, which is already being worked on in the labs, is scheduled for a August 3 release date. However the official correspondence claims that while the Google Mobile Services UI is currently being tested, AT&T has some bits and pieces of its own (read: AT&T Proprietary UI) it wants to include, which may delay the phone’s release.
Let’s dig in to details on the Lancaster with pics and specs.

- QWERTY
- Tri-band EDGE with dual-band AT&T 3G
- 3 MP Fixed-focus camera
- aGPS
- MicroSD
- ARM11 processor
- 2.8″ QVGA 240 x 320 touch display
- Unique HTC Social Messaging User Interface (Hero?)
No word on if WiFi will be included but considering that is a standard feature in all new AT&T smartphones, we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s added in later. Also, the HTC Fuze has a Autofocus camera, so why not the Lancaster?

AT&T also secured a 6-month exclusive agreement with HTC on this one, so it’ll be a while before it lands on any other carriers.
What are they leaving out? What do you think should be included in the Lancaster? And, how many of you are WAY interested in getting this when it comes out August-ish?
EA Mobile’s stable of iPhone games is already impressive, but it’s about to get even better. The mobile arm of famed game developer EA is putting the finishing touches on their latest in iPhone gaming - The Sims 3 for iPhone - and we’ve got the first-look scoop for all our readers!
These are the same guys behind iPhone-tastic gaming titles like Spore Origins, Tiger Woods PGA Tour and Need for Speed Undercover, so you know their “next big thing” is going to be, well, big. And, after spending some time with the EA Mobile team and their Sims 3 iPhone game, we’re convinced they have a hit on their hands. Keep reading for our first-look preview.
In The Sims 3, iPhone users can guide their custom “Sim” character through a virtual world as they mingle with other Sims, go to work and even decorate their house. From the “Romantic” trait or “kleptomaniac” trait to the “evil” trait, the player can choose from a vast amount of personalities that can combine in millions of unique Sims, which should make for some good “replay-ability.” The goal of the game is to simply to keep your Sim alive (by eating food and getting enough sleep) and achieving goals (like getting a job or buying a fishing kit) - a simple enough objective that makes for hours of addictive fun. If you’re familiar with The Sims franchise, you know what we’re talking about.
We were surprised by the game’s playability and the smooth 3D graphics (using an iPod Touch for demo purposes). All menus and navigation controls are incredibly intuitive - you flip through menus and scroll down lists with a flick of the finger. And, without being briefed on in-game controls, we managed to find our way through the Sims’ world with little trouble. The Sims 3’s iPhone-optimized UI is a testament to EA Mobile’s devotion to iPhone gaming.
The Sims 3 takes full advantage of the iPhone’s 3D graphics capabilities. The entire 3D world pans, tilts and rotates around your Sim character smoothly, without any noticeable lag. In fact, we were repeatedly impressed by the iPhone’s ability to smoothly render the 3D world with ease.
You pan around the game with a single finger. Dragging two fingers vertically along the touchscreen tilts the 3D view and rotating two fingers (as if you were twisting a volume-control knob) rotates the map. All the while, the game dims and raises the lighting to match the time of day in Sim-land - a nice touch to be sure.
The Sims 3 for iPhone is expected to bring the Sims franchise to the iPhone on June 2, but the version of The Sims 3 that we played with seemed just about ready for prime-time. EA Mobile said that these final weeks will be spent tweaking some minor gameplay details and adjusting the in-game soundtrack, which sounds just about right to us.
