Nexus One coming with automatic Android backup service

Google will be bringing some sort of automatic Android backup service to the Nexus One like desktop docking station, Google mentions that the dock can be used to “charge the phone while streaming music and backing up your data.” That last bit there is today’s fuel for the rumor mill. Google is getting ready to roll out a native Android backup service that possibly involves a desktop client.

Google already stores a lot of backup-able data in their cloud (Gmail, Google Contacts, Google Calendar, etc.), so the thinking is that a dock-based backup service would be more comprehensive. The iPhone, for example, backs up SMS text messages, apps, music and videos through iTunes. It wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Google offering a similar option for the Nexus One.

The less exciting possibility is that Google is referring to backup apps available on the Android Market. But, those apps don’t necessarily require that an Android phone be plugged into a computer or docking station.

We’ll have to wait for Google to release more information be we know more. The Nexus One’s rumored launch is slated for Jan. 5th, so expect more info on or before that date.

Apparently there is a limit of 5 Nexus One Phones per Google Account – time to start creating Google Accounts in massive amounts and getting your EBay seller profiles ready! I kid, I kid… also interesting that in the “terms” Google makes you acknowledge that the manufacturer of the phone is HTC and NOT Google. Maybe they’re leaving that “Google Phone” door open since this will be called the Nexus One on launch.

The phone will have four illuminated soft keys primarily for Back, Menu, Home and Search. A tri-colour LED will be used in the device for notifications and charge status.

Haptic feedback is to be included in the phone. T-Mobile G1getting update Android to version 2.0 or perhaps even 2.0.1

T-Mobile G1 could be getting an OTA (over the air) update very soon taking Android on your phone to version 2.0 or perhaps even 2.0.1.

The Android Eclair update brings a number of feature to Android phones. What we do hope for is T-Mobile launching Android 2.1 which we have recently seen on the Nexus One.

One thing to remember though is that these are still just rumours and might or might not be true.

With that in mind, we’ll update the post when rumours are confirmed either way.

Nexus One Bluetooth Desktop Dock

Google’s “shock factor” with the Nexus One isn’t with the phone itself or applications on the phone… but with how your phone can interact with other pieces of hardware with the new Bluetooth APIs now found in Android 2.0. We haven’t seen these exploited (in a good way) thus far and they are relatively new, but that doesn’t mean Google hasn’t been working on them for quite awhile now.

We’re only a couple weeks from when some of the rumors say the Nexus One will be made available. Even if its by invite only, we’ll be hearing/seeing SOMETHING pretty soon, one would think. I hope your New Years Resolution isn’t to save money by buying less gadgets cause might break that rather quickly.
